Please join Rabbi Gordon in a candlelight ceremony at Berith Sholom to commemorate Tisha B’Av, “the Ninth of Av,” a day of mourning in Judaism. Tisha B’'Av begins at sundown on Monday, August 12, 2024, and ends at nightfall on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. It commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem, the Bar Kochba revolt against the Romans in 133 CE ending in defeat, along with the expulsion of English and Spanish Jewry, the adoption of the final solution by the nazi’s and other tragedies in Jewish history. While those tragedies are all part of the service, it should also be noted that out of the destruction the Jewish people arose repeatedly. Therefore, it is also a day of hope and renewal. More details about the service will be forthcoming.
You can join us for the service via Zoom on your computer, smartphone or other mobile device. To dial in by phone, call 646.558.8656 and use Meeting ID: 862 8480 7878.
