Join Rabbi Gordon during regular Shabbat services for an informative program about upcoming elections for the World Zionist Congress.
In the aftermath of October 7, many American Jews have wondered what we can do to promote our vision of a secure, democratic, and Jewish Israel alongside a secure, peaceful Palestine. Even before October 7, as right-wing ultra-nationalist and ultra-Orthodox groups have gained political ascendancy in Israel, religious equality (between Jews) has been under attack, along with the rights of women, queer folk, and minorities. And we know, to our sorrow, that Israeli policy can trigger antisemitic acts that hurt Jews around the world. What happens in Israel affects us all.
Every 5 years, Jews in Israel and around the world elect delegates to the World Zionist Congress, sometimes called “The Parliament of the Jewish People.” It is the governing body of the World Zionist Organization, and both are important NGOs in Israel. The WZC delegates debate and decide policy, including setting priorities for distributing over a billion dollars.
The 39th WZC elections, scheduled from March 10 to May 4, 2025, will determine the composition of the delegations that will meet in Jerusalem in October 2025. The Reform Movement and Rabbi Gordon are again urging all Reform and liberal Jews age 18 or older who support the platform of ARZA (the Association of Reform Zionists in America) to vote in this election. This is an opportunity to have a concrete and practical effect on Israeli society by casting a vote in the US. Liberal Jews need a seat at the table.
